Dr. J. Byron Davidson is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon Fellowship trained in Adult Reconstructive Orthopaedic Spine Surgery. He has dedicated his entire practice to comprehensive treatment of pathologic conditions involving the Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar Spine. His main interests include minimally invasive treatments for Stenosis, Herniated Disks, Spondylolisthesis, Sciatica, Radiculopathy, Spinal Cord Compression, Trauma, Disk Replacement, Degenerative Conditions and Compression Fractures.
As a native Texan, Dr. Davidson completed his undergraduate training at Texas A&M University, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences. He then attended University of North Texas Health Sciences Center, Fort Worth, where he received a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. His Internship and Orthopaedic Residency followed at Ohio University in Columbus. He then completed a one year Spinal Reconstruction Fellowship at the Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater where he stayed on as a faculty member training spine fellows prior to joining Orthopaedic Specialties of Tampa Bay in 2006.
Dr. Davidson has a conservative approach and a philosophy of “surgery as a last resort” ensuring that each patient has the opportunity to achieve the best quality of life with the least invasive means. In cases where surgery is necessary, he will approach each case with minimally invasive techniques to ensure the least amount of tissue damage occurs.
Dr. Davidson is dedicated to the future of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery by participating in clinical trials, lectures, spinal instrumentation design, medical education, staying involved in the hospital as well as with numerous professional organizations. He is currently enrolling patients as the Primary Investigator and Co-investigator on several FDA Pivotal studies. Dr. Davidson is an Associate Clinical Professor at University of South Florida participating in Family Practice Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship. He also serves on numerous committees at Morton Plant Hospital where he recently completed Chairmanship of the Department of Surgery. He is also a current member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; the North American Spine Society; the American Osteopathic Association; and the Pinellas County Medical Society.
Most important to Dr. Davidson are his wife, Allison, and their two daughters, Caroline and Claire. They enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, swimming, kayaking and boating.
